Informed Parents, Healthy Children; A Pilot Program of Developmental Therapy Services

Parents of children with severe learning disabilities often contend with:

• depression about their child’s differences;
• confusion and anxiety about how to address their child’s needs; and
• frustration and lack of understanding about how to de-escalate a volatile child.

The implementation of educational support groups for parents of children with learning disabilities empower families with the tools to create strong and healthy parent-child interactions.

“Informed Parents, Healthy Children”, provides parents with tools to stabilize families and prevent abuse by providing:

• Parent education
• Strategies for non-violent intervention
• Therapeutic support
• Interactive parent-child skill-building

As we roll out this program for the first time during our 2011-2012 school year, access is restricted to current families of CHILD. However, we will be expanding this program to the community in the near future!
