Students are enrolled at Children's Institute two ways:

Parent Inquiry
/files/counseling.jpgParents may make inquiries about potential placement by calling Laurie Simons, Director of Admissions, at (206) 232-8680 ext. 202.  If the parent would like to pursue the possibility of enrollment, Laurie will schedule a meeting to tour our facility and to exchange more information about the child's needs.

She will review any student evaluations and records. If both the parent and the Program Director believe that one of Children's Institute's schools is a suitable match for the student, a start date will be arranged.

A Service Plan (similar to an IEP) may be completed before the start date, or may be scheduled for a time after the student has settled into his or her new school environment.

School District Placement
Children's Institute is designated by the State of Washington as an approved "Non-Public Agency" for the purpose of providing contractual education and related services for special education students. School Districts consider Children's Institute for possible placement only when all public school special education placements have been ruled out for a student.  Each school year, approximately 70% of CHILD's students attend under such an arrangement with 18 school districts.

When a school district considers placing a student, a district representative contacts CHILD's Program Director to discuss the possible placement. If after reviewing all available information about the student, it is determined that Children's Institute is the appropriate placement and there is an opening, his or her parents are invited to visit the school. If everyone is in agreement concerning the placement, a meeting is scheduled to develop or amend the Individual Education Plan (IEP) and Behavior Plan, after which enrollment may begin.

To inquire about enrollment, to refer a student you are currently working with, or to schedule a tour of our schools, call Laurie Simons at (206) 232-8680 ext. 202 or click here to email her.
