WEATHER RELATED SCHOOL CLOSURES
If it should snow while school is in session, we will follow this plan if at all possible:
If the snow begins to stick or if any accumulations are forecast, we will dismiss school as soon as possible. If you usually drive your child to and from school you will be called and asked to pick your child up as quickly as possible. Our staff will wait with the children until you arrive, so we urge you to come as quickly as it is safe, so no one gets stranded. Drive carefully.
If it should snow before school, we will implement the following plan:
We will post an update to our website homepage at www.ChildrensInstitute.com indicating closure IF we are closed. We will indicate a delayed start IF we are delaying the start of the day. If many districts are closing or delaying school, we MAY post a note to the website that we are open.
We will also post an update to www.schoolreport.org. On that page, go to “private schools”. From there, click on “Children’s Institute for Learning Differences” for notices of closures or delays. At some high traffic times, our alert may be delayed in being posted. Again, you are advised to go to the CHILD website if you are uncertain.
You may also listen to the radio (KIRO-AM 710), or tune into KIRO (channel 7), KOMO (channel 4), or KING (channel 5) for information about school closures and delays.
We will attempt to have a school closure/or schedule change notice posted by 7:00 in the morning. We urge you to use your own discretion as to the safety of transporting your child to school when there is snow or ice. If you are not coming, we would like you to call and leave a message that your child will be absent.
If a school district provides transportation, they will determine any changes in pick-up time. School districts often cancel transportation services when weather conditions are unsafe. This is noted as “out-of-district transportation” on television announcements. If your district cancels transportation and CHILD is open, you are welcome to transport your child to and from school that day. Please call to let us know if you are coming later than usual.
If we lose power during the day, we will implement “early dismissal” and notify you as quickly as possible.
If your child has OT (Occupational Therapy) or Speech Therapy, please call directly to the Developmental Therapy Services attendance line: (206)232-3588 or call (206)232-8680 ext. 214 before 8:00 a.m.., so you will not be charged. Hearing from you will help us to make adjustments in staff and schedules on days when a large number of clients are absent.
